“Saturday Night Fever – John Travolta – Bee Gees”

Saturday Night Fever is a 1977 American drama film directed by John Badham and starring John Travolta as Tony Manero, a working-class young man who spends his weekends dancing and drinking at a local Brooklyn discothèque; Karen Lynn Gorney as Stephanie Mangano, his dance partner and eventual confidante; and Donna Pescow as Annette, Tony’s former dance partner and would-be girlfriend. While in the disco, Tony is the king. His circle of friends and weekend dancing help him to cope with the harsh realities of his life: a dead-end job, clashes with his unsupportive and squabbling parents, racial tensions in the local community, and his general restlessness.

A huge commercial success, the film significantly helped to popularize disco music around the world and made Travolta, already well known from his role on TV’s Welcome Back, Kotter, a household name. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, featuring disco songs by the Bee Gees, is one of the best-selling soundtracks of all time.[4]

The film showcased aspects of the music, the dancing, and the subculture surrounding the disco era: symphony-orchestrated melodies; haute couture styles of clothing; pre-AIDS sexual promiscuity; and graceful choreography.

Btw, in the dance scene with the two women, one in white and one in red, one on the left and one on the right, they were really good. The woman on the right continued in acting. The woman on the left…. I’m not sure about. There were some good roles being played in the movie. I could almost fee myself there.

So Right you are! From my understanding a lot of dance training went into the making of Saturday Night Fever because Travolta was not really a dancer. He surely had the style and personality. Timing was right for producers to capture a nostalgic theme. Actually I did not give much attention to the dance teams. It was Travalta all the way! And I loved the beat of the music with Travolta’s charisma.. I also love and remember those times.

Thanks for sharing. The scene that I mentioned is one where he was in the middle, and the woman in the white dress said, “Kiss me! Kiss me! Then John kissed her, and she said, “I’ve kissed Al Paccino!” It was great.

Too bad. …Travolta asked for that kiss by his grand entrance into the nightclub. Nice scene but I can appreciate the dimmed lights that concealed the unstylish fashion of the 2 women. But, I am with you still. It was a captivating scene. Love this film and moment in time!!
