“You’re the Inspiration” is a song written by Peter Cetera and David Foster for the group Chicago and recorded for their album Chicago 17 (1984), with Cetera singing lead vocals. The third single released from that album, it reached number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100chart in January 1985, and also climbed to the top position on the adult contemporary chart at the same time.[2]Peter Cetera re-recorded the song for his 1997 solo album You’re the Inspiration: A Collection.[3] That same year he also recorded a single version with the vocal R&B group, Az Yet.

Peter Cetera was truly one of the great pop singers of the 80’s era, and though Foster’s production tended towards the bombastic, the bands impeccable musicianship shines through on this track.

In the parlance of those in the music industry, Chicago were a collection of ‘monster’ musicians. In my opinion, both Cetera and Journey’s Steve Perry represented the finest vocalists of their era.

Very ‘True’. Chicago’s instrumental style is their signature (id) over all superb vocals in the group.😎👍👍

I loved Chicago! I’m a sax player and the horns were an incredible addition, especially the brass, which I never quite conquered. But Peter Cetera was masterful! I love a rock band that can not only play their instruments, but have a vocalist that is expressive as well as powerful. That’s Chicago! Okay, I need coffee!
